I like using sunflower seeds instead of pine nuts to save a little bit of money yet still achieve a similar taste and texture.


  • 1 cup fresh basil

  • ⅓ cup of sunflower seeds

  • ½ block of soft tofu

  • ¼ cup of nutritional yeast

  • 3-4 cloves of garlic (peeled)

  • 1 tablespoon of lemon juice

  • ¼-½ cup of water

  • 1 teaspoon of salt

  • Pepper to taste

  • Pinch of red pepper flakes


Add all the ingredients (start with ¼ cup of water, add more to achieve desired consistency) to a blender and blend until smooth. Serve with whole wheat pasta.
