Baked beans are often made with bacon and a ton of brown sugar. This healthier version is tasty and made from clean ingredients.

Ingredients

  • 2 cans or 4 cups of cooked navy bean (drained and rinsed)

  • 1 medium onion, minced

  • 3 cloves of garlic, minced

  • 1 cup of tomato sauce

  • ¼ cup of apple cider vinegar

  • 3 tablespoons of vegan Worcestershire sauce

  • ¼ cup of pure maple syrup

  • 2 tablespoons of unsulphured molasses

  • 2 tablespoons of yellow mustard

  • ¼ teaspoon of smoked paprika

  • ½ teaspoon of freshly ground black pepper

  • 1 teaspoon of sea salt

Preparation

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. In a large pot, add the chopped onion and stir, cook for about 4-5 minutes, until soft. Then add the garlic and cook for 1 more minute. Add remaining ingredients minus the beans. Stir well, then add the drained and rinsed beans. Transfer to a large casserole dish and cover with foil. Bake for 1 hour. The sauce should thicken a bit.
